I wanted to first start off by showing that my plan to start this blog was simple.
- Step 1: Think of a name
- Step 2: Create the website
- Step 3: Design the website
- Step 4: Publish and write posts
However, this perfect setup did not go as planned. The truth is that I struggled the most in Steps 3 and 4. I expected that I would just start immediately and make this beautiful website while being on track with writing. But I felt so unmotivated and lazy just to get up and go. Even though it’s a normal feeling to experience slumps and working blocks, I just hated how unproductive I was. I would attempt to push myself to open my computer and start writing, but that wasn’t how this started. My inspiration thrived off of seeing productive activities happen. This might just be something that motivates me, but when I see these activities occur, my mind has this spark of jolts. I think, “if they’re being productive, I should too.” However, this doesn’t always work.
Everyone has unique ways of motivation. But what really gets people going is knowing that they aren’t alone in slump situations. It gives them hope that getting started is a process, NOT a solution. My process was taking a moment to collect my thoughts and organize them in my head a little. Then, I pour it into the document whenever the time is right (but don’t wait too long, or else that beautiful mind can forget). Throughout my process of creating this blog, I can tell you that it wasn’t as easy as I thought. I understand now that there is essentially beauty in this draining slump of mine. It’s the fact that I found dignity in myself to get up and go 🙂
